Old man winter has shown up a little earlier than anticipated but it’s not slowing down the fishing! The cold fronts have been pretty brutal and consistent over the past month. Cooler temperatures and rough conditions offshore mean we switch up our game and adapt! We’ve been fishing our winter time haunts in the backcountry and they’ve been producing Snook, Sheepshead, Trout, and Redfish. When the wind will let up and allow us offshore there will be a great Sheepshead and snapper bite offshore. This makes for great action and great table fare as well. On top of that the cold water pelagics will be around as well. Cobia, Kingfish, Bonita and Triple tail are always a crowd pleaser this time of the year.
We have a busy couple of weeks approaching for the upcoming holiday. We still have some slots available for anyone looking to get out! Please reach out to any of our captains for any questions you may have.

With the recent temperature drop down into the high 40s and nothing but stiff north wind for the foreseeable future it’s safe to say winter is here. As we move into winter fishing things will change inshore and offshore. Lots of backcountry fish will head way back into the shallow creeks seeking refuge from the cold and dirty water. Our prime inshore targets during the winter are Redfish, Trout, and sheepshead with some Snook mixed in as well. Offshore fishing in between the fronts when the wind lets up can be extremely good.
When you get a chance to get out there after things have been cold, dirty and rough the fish are always starving! The typical staples we target will be around with some additional ones like kingfish and sheepshead showing up on the scene. We are booking numerous trips daily for the holiday week and the month of January. Please feel free to reach out to any of us for any questions you may have or to get a trip in the book! -The Bedell Captain’s Fall fishing is in full swing down here in Naples, FL. The recent cool down in temperature has been a nice change of pace for everyone, including the fish! All of the typical fall suspects are around. Offshore we're seeing nice schools of Cobia on the wrecks with lots of other options to fill the gaps as well. Bonitas, Barracudas, Jack's, Goliath's, Snook, Mackerel, Snapper and triple tail have all been common catches on our recent offshore and nearshore trips. Inshore fishing has been very solid as well with many fish heading deeper into the backcountry in anticipation of winter. Snook, Redfish and jacks have been very steady with some trout mixed in as well. The bait is plentiful, the weather has been beautiful and the good fishing is just an added bonus! We have some limited availability for the upcoming holiday week so book accordingly!
Mid September fishing report for Naples, Florida. We are still in that summer – fall, transition. Great fishing opportunities around any corner.
With us being right in the middle of September and right in the middle of summer and fall we’re still having the opportunities of several fish still hanging around. The OAM team stumbled across a large school of free swimming permit just a few days ago. Conditions were absolutely insane. The fish were bobbing, tailing, floating and eating every crab that hit the water. Many doubles and triples on deck! Also, on these transition months, anything can come swimming up to the boat. We still have been wrestling with large snook. Goliath groupers. Some Bonita’s have been showing up in the mix and a variety of snappers for the dinner table. With October right around the corner is the beginning of our season. Our books are already starting to fill up for the month of October. With that being said also lots of great dinner availabilities for the month of October. Cobia should be ruling our area any day now. Also, the stone crab traps go out on October 1st and the Tripletail fishing will soon be incredible. Please reach out to anyone or Captains to book your fall trip with on a mission charters. Thank you the Bedell Captains. Well, we are pretty much wrapping up Summer down here in Naples, Florida. It’s been an incredible year of great fishing huge goals accomplished for the on a mission team. We recently just cracked 100 permit for the year which has been one of our goals for many years and we did it with our great friend Clay Guida.
Some hints of summer are still holding on, and some traces of fall are starting to show as well. With the fall comes, our new Pilchard hatch and beaches should be loaded with pearls all the way to Christmas. We really love this time of the year. The cobia fishing should turn on very soon, and some Tarpon are already starting to trickle in. We are still finding a few permit here in there with the water temps reaching nearly 100 these last few weeks. A lot of the fish have left our area. On the other side of that we have had a few weeks of northeast wind and some rain and temperatures are drastically coming down. We have been concentrating on a lot of the nearshore wrecks with the Northeast when it’s been kind of hard to break away too much further out. These racks are stacked with giant Snook and all the Jewfish you wanna wrestle with. We have some availability in our calendars this time of the year which is really nice because we can cherry pick your best day. Instead of it being forced on one where we were completely booked. Please reach out to any one of our Captains to secure your trip of a lifetime! Thank you, the captain Bedell’s The mid July fishing report for Naples, Florida. It’s been extra hot down here this time of year, but so is the fishing.
Our focus has and is still in the Permit game. Still large fish and schools in our area. These trips require booking at least a 6 hour minimum. Of course full days work too. It’s jus difficult for us to find these fish on half days. We’ve even been running into some either late season in Cobia or early season in Cobia. Either way we are not upset about that. These fish make for amazing site fishing opportunities and always good on the table. There have also been some good numbers of large Snook on the Inshore wrecks. These fish have not been picky eating everything from bait to artificial, always make for a great photograph and a quick release. Also, Goliaths in every size range on the same spots. Our books are slowing down a little bit, but we are still very steady doing 3 to 4 trips a week. We do love this time of year. We are able to flip-flop around in case of intimate weather. Also, we have been catering to a lot of our regulars and specialty charters for permit fishing only. This is the time of year to knock that bucket list off and cherry pick your day. Let us do the rest. Hope to see you all on the water, tight lines and thank you from the Bedell Captains. June to July transition has been a pleasant mixed bag. We love the month of July, that’s when we get our biggest Permit of the year.
Seems like the big girls like the month of July. We have been capitalizing on some larger fish from 38 to 40 inches the big bruisers are here! Also between the permit frenzies, we’ve been getting a nice mixed bag of just about everything that swims right now. Massive jacks, drag screaming, barracudas. Golias that will make you hug the gunnel with everything you’ve got, even a few straggler Cobia have showed up in the mix. While we’re talking about the pleasant mixed bag offshore, a lot of the tasty snappers have moved in to spawn for the summer. Mangroves and nice lanes even a few yellow tails in the mix always make for delicious fish tacos after the Charter. Been very fickle year for the Tarpon. Weather has not been on our side, onshore winds. It seems like in every direction, rough waves, and sees even some dirty water just to make it that more difficult. We still have been stopping by and checking out the scene in the morning. If we don’t see any fish, we are heading out to where some better game fish cooperate. Our calendars are still very steady for this time of the year, when we provide specialty trips and knocking special bucket list fish off of your list, those charters get booked very quickly. July can be a very special month with usually Fairweather so please reach out to anyone of our Captains to book a trip of a lifetime! Also, specialty get certificates for birthdays, special occasions, and holidays are always available! Thank you the Bedell Captains. June permit game remains about a strong as it can be. We are delivering the On a Mission special daily.!
The permit are everywhere. All of our wrecks are completely littered with football fields schools of fish, our clients have been capitalizing on giant numbers and lots of shots every day. A sight fished crab with good placement results in almost immediate hook ups. These fish are fighting over the crab. They can’t get enough. It’s been such a perfect way to hone in our clients angling skills and making them better at what we do. It’s amazing to watch the Angler’s progress, so very rewarding. There has still been a few tarpon around. We’ve been putting a few up in the air every day the water is been dirty and it just doesn’t seem like they’re cooperating very much, with that being said we run to the permit grounds where they cooperate and make days very easy-going. Our schedule is very busier than most this time of the year when you cater to glamour fish like this and our clients listen to us talk about them all year these dates go very quickly, so please reach out to any one of our Captains to secure these amazing dates for your family. We don’t get these days very often, so we capitalize on them as much as possible. Thank you. The Bedell Captains. The month of June is here already, and we are glad to see it. This time of year is very special! Tarpon for breakfast. Permit for lunch.
June we start our Charters very early in the morning site, casting to large schools, trains, and even daisychains of beautiful Tarpon. These fish range from 60 pounds all the way well over 100. Amazing blistering runs and incredible acrobatics to start our day as the sun comes up. With this bite, though, it comes and goes very fast. Although we could stay and wait for more opportunities, we usually put a few fish in the air and then head to the Permit grounds, where they are a lot more cooperative. The permit have been stacked on almost every wreck in our vicinity. We’ve been on fish from 25 pounds all the way up to the big 40s. These fish are usually schooled up floating, and with a well presenting crab can make for a lifetime of memories. We’ve been booking a lot of families and first timers that have never experienced this fishery. Lots of cherry Poppin opportunities for all of our clients with multiple shots makes for incredible Charter’s. With this being said, we need time to locate these fish. These charters this time of year we do not recommend a half day, we recommend full days, possibly a six hour minimum. Trust me when you find these fish you’re not gonna want to leave the opportunities we are going to be presenting to. You will be booking your next Charter before we get back to the dock. Our calendar is very busy for this month with lots of regulars and clients that have been listening to us all year long. This is the time of year we talk about. These are the charters we live for. These are the memories were making every day. So please reach out to anyone of our Captains to book this memory of a lifetime. Thank you, tight lines. The Bedell Captains. We have entered the last month of spring and one of our favourite months to fish! Permit are everywhere. Cobia are sitting thin out and the tarpon are starting to swim!
Offshore has been steady with Permit. Unfortunately, we are still getting these late season fronts and they are not letting us go where we need to go. With that being said, we have been concentrating our efforts in the back on these 25+ west wind days are impossible to go offshore! With the backcountry Thriving with juvenile Tarpon, lots of snook lots of Redfish and Jack’s everywhere. It’s been plenty of things to keep our clients busy. This is a perfect time of year to cherry pick your best day. We have availability on our schedule to do that this time of year, so no picking bad weather days. Also, this is a perfect opportunity to check some of these specialty fish off of your bucket list with incredible site fishing and amazing fishing just around every corner. Captain’s Weston and myself also just did a TV show for A fishing story with Ronnie Green which should be out in July. Please keep an eye out. Please feel free to reach out to anyone of our Captains to book your next charter of a lifetime! Thank you. The Bedell Captains. |
