Well we went to sleep last night and it was summer. We woke up to winter. So crazy! That’s why we love Florida!
These cooler temperatures are a good thing. It will bring all kinds of new species to our areas. The Tarpon will show up in greater numbers. The Kingfish, Cobia and Tripletail will all be here any day now. The Bonita showed, we saw some small numbers this morning.
The backcountry and near shore have been really good. Lots of Redfish seem to be everywhere in good numbers. Trout too. Snook and big Jacks are not far behind.
The offshore has been shut down this week due to 15-25 knot winds make it miserable and I promise you don’t want to go there. The near shore is completely on fire. Black-tip, Spinners, Bulls sharks are everywhere, even had a 10 tiger swim up to the boat and swiped the bait!
Our calendars are filling up fast Thanksgiving is almost already closed out so if you have any plans on being near Naples, Florida during that time I would definitely give us a call.
Thank you the Bedell Captains!
The inshore and beach fishing has come alive this week! The water has cooled just a few degrees and light east winds has made for incredible clean water and amazing sight fishing opportunities.
The Tarpon are doing cartwheels and backflips in the Pilchard pods at first light in the morning. These fish can be targeted by a variety of plugs or simply just the cut chunk on the bottom! They have been a little finicky because they are just gorging on shiners! It’s been a very short window at daybreak it’s usually over very quickly. Also the benefit of the chunk bait, we’ve been picking up lots of spinner and Blacktip shark‘s which are also fun to pull on when the tarpon are being finicky.
Massive schools of Jack’s have been patrolling the beach as well. Large schools all different sizes some schools are 5 pounds other schools are 15 to 20 with some larger 30s in there! These fish are in 3 feet of water daisychaining eating everything but the kitchen sink.
The backcountry fishing has come alive as well! With these cooler water temperatures the red fish have littered the whole region. You could find these fish on docks, bays, points, coves, rock piles even free swimming massive schools just offshore!
It feels like season is here earlier and earlier every day. Our book very busy but we have also added a sister boat this year to take on any extra work. Which leaves our schedule with another boat available for the calendar! Please don’t hesitate or wait to reach out to anyone of our captains!
Thank you. The Bedell Captains!
The pre-fall fishing in Naples, Florida is right on schedule. The air and water temperatures really haven’t cooled down but we are seeing some fishy fall patterns already starting to take place.
This Labor Day weekend was very busy in the backcountry so we did sneak out to some of the inshore wrecks and they paid off very well. Spanish mackerel seem to be everywhere and some big ones in the mix. Even some larger Snook and mangrove snapper are eating the pilchards on these wrecks. Lots of barracudas in the mix. Goliath grouper‘s. Also a plethora of black tips and spinner sharks have moved into our region! Also the back to back hurricanes that have passed us by the skin of our teeth. Have moved extreme numbers of triple tail into our area. The stone crab traps are not even out yet and we are seeing floaters everywhere, anticipating October very much!
This is one of our slowest months of the year. It sure doesn’t feel like it, we are still doing 3 to 4 trips a week. Lots of late shoppers and callers but with our schedules wide-open they have the best pic of weather days. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our captains to book your families charter!
Thank you, the Bedell Captains.
Fishing in September in Naples, Florida. We love this month around here. This is our slowest month of the year. We don’t mind. No one at the ramp or on the water. Yes you can pick any shoreline you like. Bait is absolutely everywhere. So are the gamefish!
Our calendars are very spotty at best for September. One here, one there. This will change the closer we get to October. We will have 2 bay boats this season to cater to the larger parties and with overflow. Please reach out to any one of our captains to book your trip of a lifetime!
Thank you. The Bedell Captain’s.
As we enter September in Naples, Florida we are also getting into a pre-fall pattern. The bait fish (pilchards) have shown up so early! It’s so nice to just stop anywhere and black the wells out for the days fishing!
So after the live wells are thriving. You can just take them about anywhere and find fish. The inshore wrecks have been providing lots of Snook, Goliath grouper and Spanish mackerel. The cobia, kingfish and Tripletail should show up very shortly!
The back country remains as solid as could be. Large snook are just about everywhere with lots of small males mixed in. Even some Trout and massive schools of Jack’s to fill the gaps. The redfish are also starting to fill-in everywhere. The beach, the bushes, any docks and rocks will hold these fish through the next few months!
September can yield some amazing fishing. Ironically it’s one of our slowest months of the year. So if you would like to enjoy some time on the water with nobody around and amazing fishing please reach out to anyone of our captains!
Thank you. The Bedell Captain’s.

Fishing report for Fourth of July weekend in Naples Florida. The Permit fishing in our area is starting to fire up. Also some of the winds have laid down. So we are able to get to some of the nearshore and offshore wrecks off Naples to fish for these beautiful fish. A well-placed crab in a school of 20 of these fish usually results in a instant hook up! Lots of barracudas and sharks to fill in some of the gaps.
The back country fishing remains completely as solid as it can be! It just seems like these monsters Snook are everywhere and that’s not a bad thing! They are eating everything from live bait to dead bait, also flies and artificial‘s! Which makes it a very fun game for any angler!
Our books are starting to fill up for the holiday weekend we do have some availability and we can get you and your family on the water this weekend. Please reach out to anyone of our captains to book your charter.
Thank you the Bedell Captains!
The captains over here at on a mission guide service in Naples Florida always find our self in the same predicament. We cannot stress enough to our clients how important it is to be able to use artificial’s. It is so very important! We cannot always find bait. There are times of the year that it is very difficult to find, even if we go out three or four hours before our charter we come back with 10 pieces. Not even enough to fish a half day.
That’s where the artificial game comes to play. Top water and soft plastics even jigs and flies all work wonders if used correctly! I find myself telling my clients this all the time. I probably sound like a broken record but I always say go practice in the backyard in the pond in the pool you don’t even need water. Practice casting in tight situations. Practice learning how to walk the dog with a top water plug correctly. We can coach you through the rest, if you have the simple skills! Also, the payoffs will keep you coming back!
Backcountry game in the Naples area remains strong with these artificial‘s. Lots of big snook everywhere will crush these plugs. Redfish, jacks, trout, juvenile Tarpon. Even had some juvenile bull sharks and black tips completely blast these plugs! Once you hone your skills you will be surprised how fast your angling game will improve. If you want to become a better angler you have to learn how to fish with more than live bait!
Tight lines! The Bedell Captains.
I’m sure on all of my reports this month I have sounded like a broken record. Well this is why! If you’re looking to break that personal best snook record, these big girls are around. They are on the beach they are in the passes they are in the bushes! Cut ladyfish, mullet or thread have been the key. These big fish do not want to chase down any artificial or live bait. They are waiting for the slow easy meal and the benefits are very substantial. The other benefits of using cut bait. The redfish love them sharks and even tarpon. So when we throw these chunks out anything is possible.
The beach fishing & offshore has been very difficult the last week to 10 days. South to south east winds have been ripping and had a lot of things churned up. Still has been some tarpon on the beach when you can get a good bead on them we’ve been having some good hook ups. Lots of sharks to fill the gaps!
We have some availability and lots of good fishing opportunities this summer available with beautiful weather and calm days are ahead. Please reach out to anyone of our captains to book your charter!
Thank you the Bedell Captains
