Both of our fisheries are about as good as they get right now. The offshore and backcountry waters have all been thriving!
Well it is still March and we are still picking our days to head offshore. Usually with March means wind. Lots of wind. If you watch your apps, and pick your day you can capitalize on some amazing fishing! The permit are here! Football field schools of fish are just about on every wreck. Lots of fish up high. Tailing, mooning, and just waiting for a well-placed sight fished crab to pick off these fish from 25 to 40 pounds. Also the Cobia have been there to greet us almost every time. Wolf packs of fish ranging from 20 to 50 pounds are up high as well and ready to usually eat any bait fish, artificial, or fly! Yes and the giant schools of barracudas are never far away! These fish have been ravishing the artificial over the live bait! Insane eats right at your feet almost figure 8 musky style fishing! Packs of fish are surrounding the boat waiting for you to toss the artificial and rip it through them! Amazing site fishing opportunities with some National Geographic stuff thrown in! The back country fishery has been up to par and some great things happening back there as well. Seems like any Shoreline, Cove, or point you hit with a Livewell of frisky pilchards and you are almost in immediate action. Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, Trout and of course Jack’s have all been everywhere. Just toss a few freebies out the back and wait for the action to come alive. Almost instantly you see these fish putting huge holes in the water and waiting for you to place your bait right in the middle and hold on! We love it!! Now with the fishing being the way it is and the time of year being where it is our calendars are exploding. Even with two boats we are running every day so please try to prevent the late calls. We just don’t have room for you unless there is a emergency cancellation. Please book accordingly. I would book a charter before you book your flight information because they are going fast. We hate to leave anyone out and we want to make sure everybody has a chance to get on the water with us. Looking forward to seeing you on the water. Everyone have a happy and safe spring break and Easter. Tight lines! Thank you, the Bedell Captains!

Well with March we all know it means wind, and yes we have it, lots of it!
From south to east 20+ knots every day pretty much shut down the offshore fishery around us. We did have a small window of king fish and Bonita at the Bait spot earlier in the week but we were chased off immediately by raging winds and rising seas. When this happens we put all of our resources into the inshore and back country fishery. We have places to hide from the wind and traffic. A lot of the spots this week have been producing lots of mixed bag of different species! Some Juvenile Tarpon have filled into some of the coves in the back which are always fun on light tackle. The redfish seem to be on every corner and another way to fill the gaps. Also some trout and mangrove snapper coming home for dinner! There has also been a good amount of sharks along the beach and the strings and trains of Tarpon should be here any day now! We have been carrying crabs with us every day waiting for those first rogue fish to start moving north. March and April seem to be the busiest months of the year for us and our calendars are exploding. We have added online booking to make life easier for everyone. Pick your day, pick your time, pick your boat, let us do the rest! Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water. Thank you the Bedell Captains! The fishing the first week of March has been nothing less than remarkable. To say Spring has sprung is an understatement! What has been happening around here feels more like the Bahamas and Central America than possibly Naples, Florida!
The offshore fishing seems that everything is months early than it should be. We have literally been bouncing off thousand fish schools of permit this last week. Three different sized football field schools of tailing, wagging and daisy chaining permit all from 15 to 40 pounds! Toss your crab in the middle and hold on! Also in the schools of Permit are wolf packs of Cobia ranging from 20 to 50 pounds. These fish will literally eat anything you throw out on from a jig, plug or well-placed live bait always does the trick! We really can’t leave this one out either. After releasing a permit on Saturday Capt Weston looked over and found a beautiful sailfish. Captain Perry quickly grabbed a bait to site fish this beautiful pelagic! Absolute unicorn in these parts and very very rare. The last time the onamissionfishingcharters team caught a sailfish in the gulf it was 1996. What’s even crazier than the Sailfish is we were graced with a beautiful white shark the day before. This 8 foot juvenile great white was not scared of us at all. It was almost sizing us up, what an amazing creature still very rare in these parts! The back country fishing is absolutely coming alive as well. The giant snook are moving in off the wrecks and setting up in their usual haunts! The spawn should be around May and all the big girls eat! Redfish are still about on every shoreline along with jacks and even some trout and mangrove snapper for the table if you like! The tarpon should be here any day now. There have been some juveniles in the back country from 5 to 30 pounds. The big ones should be here any day! We have already seen a few rogue fish! Now if all this doesn’t get your arms tired we still have more sharks to pull on than anybody probably wants to. From black tips and spinners to sand bars and bulls. Even the occasional tiger and hammerhead will still show up! We are getting ready to enter one of the busiest seasons of the year. March is already gearing up to be very busy while we have almost one boat already booked. Still plenty of room left on the second boat to get your family on the water. April and May are following suit! We have also now added online booking to our website. Naplesoffshorefishingcharters.com you can go on there and book your charter at any time. Even when we are offshore out of range from any cell phone towers. So please book accordingly and visit the site, it’s very easy and walks you right through it! We hope to get you and your family out on the water, thank you from all the captains at On A Mission! |
