The fishing the first week of March has been nothing less than remarkable. To say Spring has sprung is an understatement! What has been happening around here feels more like the Bahamas and Central America than possibly Naples, Florida!
The offshore fishing seems that everything is months early than it should be. We have literally been bouncing off thousand fish schools of permit this last week. Three different sized football field schools of tailing, wagging and daisy chaining permit all from 15 to 40 pounds! Toss your crab in the middle and hold on! Also in the schools of Permit are wolf packs of Cobia ranging from 20 to 50 pounds. These fish will literally eat anything you throw out on from a jig, plug or well-placed live bait always does the trick! We really can’t leave this one out either. After releasing a permit on Saturday Capt Weston looked over and found a beautiful sailfish. Captain Perry quickly grabbed a bait to site fish this beautiful pelagic! Absolute unicorn in these parts and very very rare. The last time the onamissionfishingcharters team caught a sailfish in the gulf it was 1996. What’s even crazier than the Sailfish is we were graced with a beautiful white shark the day before. This 8 foot juvenile great white was not scared of us at all. It was almost sizing us up, what an amazing creature still very rare in these parts! The back country fishing is absolutely coming alive as well. The giant snook are moving in off the wrecks and setting up in their usual haunts! The spawn should be around May and all the big girls eat! Redfish are still about on every shoreline along with jacks and even some trout and mangrove snapper for the table if you like! The tarpon should be here any day now. There have been some juveniles in the back country from 5 to 30 pounds. The big ones should be here any day! We have already seen a few rogue fish! Now if all this doesn’t get your arms tired we still have more sharks to pull on than anybody probably wants to. From black tips and spinners to sand bars and bulls. Even the occasional tiger and hammerhead will still show up! We are getting ready to enter one of the busiest seasons of the year. March is already gearing up to be very busy while we have almost one boat already booked. Still plenty of room left on the second boat to get your family on the water. April and May are following suit! We have also now added online booking to our website. Naplesoffshorefishingcharters.com you can go on there and book your charter at any time. Even when we are offshore out of range from any cell phone towers. So please book accordingly and visit the site, it’s very easy and walks you right through it! We hope to get you and your family out on the water, thank you from all the captains at On A Mission!

The winter to spring transition has sprung upon us. Lots of mixed back action for both boats! The offshore waters and back country have been both very solid this last week. The water is getting warmer and some of our migratory species are showing up! For offshore. Packs of Cobia. Football field size schools of Bonita. A variety of very good sized sharks. Lots of snapper and sheephead for the dinner table!
For the back country we are making the transition from shrimp to pilchards and artificials! With the waters warming up snook and redfish will be eating pilchards! Along with some massive jacks patrolling the back country and the tarpon should show up any day. OK as in booking your families Charter. We have added some new things to our website which makes booking extremely easy while we were on the water for long days and usually out of range. Also you can see our full calendar and make sure the days you’re looking for are available. We are extremely busy. Florida is flooded like I’ve never seen it in my life! We have three dates available left this February. I believe we have 10 days available left in March for one boat lots of doubles in there as well. Things are trickling in for April too! Please book accordingly and get your families Charter in the book. March and April are extremely busy with spring break and Easter these dates will not last long! We hope to see you on the water soon. Tight lines! Thank you the Bedell Captains! The fishing in Naples has finally felt like winter. The water has finally reached the 60s and right where it’s supposed to be for January.
We have switched gears into shrimp and artificials. With the water cooling these winter species all thrive this time of year. For the backcountry it’s been a nice mix bag of trout, sheep head, mangrove snapper, and the redfish have been going gangbusters on anything in there face. Also, a few snook and pompano in the mix. For the offshore. Weather pending, obviously. Also a nice mix bag. Most of the larger Snook have moved off to the inshore wrecks. All eating shrimp as well. Also snapper and sheep head on these same wrecks. Also possibly Cobia or permit in the mix too. Maybe a triple tail or Bonitas on the way! Some things have settled down after the holidays, but we are still very busy. Also Tarpon and Permit season’s getting booked up fast. Reach out to any one of our captains for your families Charter. Thank you the Bedell Captain’s. Well 2022 is finally here, it was a toothy Christmas holiday for the on a mission team. With summer like patterns at the end of December made for some awesome weather and incredible fishing!
We were hit with one of the busiest holiday seasons we’ve had. First season with two boats and we were able to accommodate large family parties and we didn’t stop for about three weeks. We are still going strong with only two availabilities left this week. The fishing has been absolutely incredible. Lots of bait everywhere water temps in the mid 70s light winds makes our job very easy. The back country and nearshore has remained as solid as it can be. Redfish and snook seem to be everywhere like it’s still fall. We also have been finding some fish for the table with sheephead, mangrove snapper, trout, tripletail and even a few gag grouper to close out the season. So as we start this new year we are still extremely busy. If you have any indication of when you would like to fish or when your party would like to be on the water please reach out to anyone of our captains. Thank you. Happy new year! The Bedell captain’s. Well Christmas is right around the corner and we would be thinking it’s still September around here with this beautiful weather that we’ve been having. Light winds and water temperatures in the mid 70s have made offshore fishing incredible this week. With everything from Permit, Cobia, Gag Grouper and if that’s not enough for you lots of sharks in Bonitas to pull on too. We are sure the backcountry fishing is been good as well but when the Seas are this calm we take full advantage of these opportunities as you can see our photos.
Now as to Christmas break and availability. We have one boat completely almost full until the first of the year. We do have some availability from our second boat which would be filling up very fast, we booked nine charters yesterday. If this is a little hint about what’s getting ready to go on around here please plan accordingly and let us know if you would like to get anything in the books for the holidays. Also we do offer last minute gift certificates and fishing packages for Christmas. Just get with any of our captains and we can get this written up for you and deliver it to your family for Christmas! Everyone have a safe happy holiday. We will see you on the water, tight lines. The Bedell Captains. When the weather cooperates we are still on the Cobia. We have been sneaking out between the cold fronts and capitalizing on this amazing Offshore Fishery for this time of the year.
It hasn’t been a far run for these fish. A 15-20 minute run on a well-placed wreck with the perfect baits we can capitalize on these opportunities. We have caught multiple doubles this week, not huge fish but great size for light tackle and even one for the table! These inshore wrecks can hold multiple species. Goliath grouper, snook, snapper, permit, barracudas, and sharks of all flavours! Now, I know you’ve heard me say this before. With beautiful weather comes awful weather. With that awful weather, it is showing up tomorrow. We are getting ready to switch gears and get thrown in full blown winter. With this next front water temperatures will be dropping between five and 10° water will be dirty and cold. This is when we concentrate our efforts on the back country fishing. We switch gears and use shrimp for bait which catch all kinds of amazing table fair this time of year. Trout, Snapper, sheephead, black drum, pompano and other few tasty critters out there for the table! Contact us today to plan your Naples fishing charter. The calendar is filling up through the holiday season. Thank you the Bedell Captains! The OAM team had a solid week of fishing here in Naples, Florida. The week started out with beautiful Fall weather. Calm winds and fair seas allowed use to go where we needed to for some incredible offshore fishing. The Fall Cobia run has started. We are seeing nice packs of fish. Cobia eating everywhere. Top and bottom. Most fish are all cookie cutter slot fish from 31-35 inches. With the 33 being the keeper slot, some made it home for dinner.
Of course, with nice weather comes awful weather. We were able to pen pilchards up with upcoming weather. This helps us have bait for your charters with it blowing 30 we can still hide in the backcountry and get rewarded with beautiful Snook and Redfish. Our calendars are very busy thru Thanksgiving and into the 1st of December. We also have two sister boats and can sneak you into if needed. Thank you. Tight lines. The Bedell Captain’s. November always brings some phenomenal fishing. Gotta love all of the different Fall options. Kingfish, Tripletail, Bonita, Cobia, Snook, Redfish and various sharks will all be firing! Book accordingly.
As the weather slightly cools down here in Naples, Florida. It’s amazing to see how hot the fishing gets!
As we enter the first week of November fishing remains so solid and only going to get better this month! I’ll kinds of new species will move into our area as the cold fronts start marching down and water temperatures plummet! Cobia, Tripletail, Bonita, Kingfish are just a few of the species that will be showing up. We had a nice run with a few cobia on some trips this week, just a few fish undersize and lost some bigger ones at the boat! These wrecks are also holding good numbers of giant Snook and goliath grouper. The king fish Spanish mackerel in Bonita should all be blasting mid water to top water column! Also a plethora of mangrove snapper‘s for the table. For the back country this is one of our favorite months. Big snook and redfish will move into their usual haunts for the winter months. Some big snook will move off to the wreck and some will remain in the back in the coves and creeks! We love this month and fishing can be absolutely amazing!! Calendars are filling up every day. Even with our second boat added Thanksgiving week is almost full and starting to fill the rest of the month very quickly. Please reach out to anyone of our captains for any information or any guidance in booking your families charter! Thank you, the Bedell Captains. Well we went to sleep last night and it was summer. We woke up to winter. So crazy! That’s why we love Florida!
These cooler temperatures are a good thing. It will bring all kinds of new species to our areas. The Tarpon will show up in greater numbers. The Kingfish, Cobia and Tripletail will all be here any day now. The Bonita showed, we saw some small numbers this morning. The backcountry and near shore have been really good. Lots of Redfish seem to be everywhere in good numbers. Trout too. Snook and big Jacks are not far behind. The offshore has been shut down this week due to 15-25 knot winds make it miserable and I promise you don’t want to go there. The near shore is completely on fire. Black-tip, Spinners, Bulls sharks are everywhere, even had a 10 tiger swim up to the boat and swiped the bait! Our calendars are filling up fast Thanksgiving is almost already closed out so if you have any plans on being near Naples, Florida during that time I would definitely give us a call. Thank you the Bedell Captains! |
