The first day of fall has arrived in Naples, Florida. Right on the schedule, fishing is off the charts and we have a hurricane coming up the pipe!
As we stepped outside for work this week we’ve noticed a slight temperature drop in the air. Not very much but definitely noticed. With this change will bring a different batch of game fish to our area. The Permit are still around with some quality fish in our region. These fish have been taking a little longer to locate. Full day charters are definitely the only way you’re going to be able to find those fish. Half days it’s just asking too much. Along these wrecks we’ve been a steady stream of cobia coming through the area. Not huge fish but steady numbers. Also some great numbers of snook. These fish did just open up for season but with the pressure they’ve had for the last couple years we still do not bring them to the table. With that being said the mangrove snapper bite has been so good our clients and even ourselves have been enjoying 1 to 2 dinners for the last few weeks. We are rounding the first week of October and the peak of hurricane season. We have one coming up the pipe and it supposed to be here in the middle of next week. They’re forecasting a category three. This will obviously shut our operation down for a week or so as these storms usually turn things up pretty bad. Also silver lining of these storms they bring all kinds of new fish to our region. From the fresh new bait to a different show of gamefish. Going to be lots of water moving and lots of things moving with it. We have one more charter tomorrow and then we are shutting down operations till the storm passes. Wishing all of our clients, friends and family good luck in this storm. Batten down down the hatches and stay safe! Thank you. The Bedell Captains.

We have finally reached prefall status in Naples, Florida. All of the usual suspects are around. We are wide open to put your family on some amazing fishing!
This is the slowest month of the year. Also a great month to tighten everything up and get ready for season. That is exactly what we’re doing. We are also taking advantage of this beautiful weather and no one around! I must say we do not mind this time of the year at all. Gives us the time to catch up on some things. We have one of our boats being redone and of course getting out and enjoying some time on the water with family is always nice. Lots of great fishing still to be had around here. The cobia have been a staple on every trip. Whether with clients or playing. FWC just changed the regulations on Cobia. They are now 36 inches to the fork and a lot of these fish are 2021 models. Unfortunately they don’t get to come home but they are great fight on light tackle. Also there have been some bigger ones lurking around we have lost quite a few at the boat. A few even to some big bull sharks. On the table fair side. The mangrove snapper bite has been incredible. These fish are not huge but incredibly tasty. The ones that have been coming over the gunnels you don’t even need to measure. When we knock those sides off it’s straight chicken breast size and we have been enjoying fish tacos over here once a week. Now, let’s revisit the Permit. Lots of fish still around. We have been finding some schools in all sizes. The little dinner plates from 10 to 15 pounds. Even some bigger bruisers in the 25 to 35 pound class are still patrolling a few wrecks. Our schedules are pretty wide-open even with one boat we’re doing about 2 to 3 trips a week right now. With that being said we have lots of flexibility if you need to flip a day because of weather. Or maybe you need to add another person to your party because it grows. We can accommodate to all of those things this time of the year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone of our captains. Thank you the Bedell Captains. Well Summer is over and what a good one it has been. We capitalized on so many extremely large Permit this summer and spring that it was one for the record books! We are anticipating fall very much. Also winter will be here before you know it.
Fall is a very special time of year in our Naples fishery and we anticipate it very much. With September being one of our slowest months of the year this is a great time for us to catch a little R&R and get out on the water for ourselves. Still trickling in 2 to 3 trips a week. Our offshore fishery still remains very solid. The water is still extremely warm the weather is usually mild and we can venture out to these inshore & offshore Wrecks that holds so many amazing game fish. On these wrecks you will find from surface to bottom a different variety of great fish! On the surface are large schools of giant barracudas. Also the permit will be tailing and bobbing. Although the schools have thinned a little bit this time of the year there are still some great permit fishing to be had. Next, in that middle water column. Have been a mixture of different size Cobia‘s. FWC just change the regulations on these fish, they were 33 to the fork and are now 36 to a fork. We have been getting one to two of these a trip. Although they are the 2021 models we are anticipating that first keeper any day now. Now for the bottom. All kinds of varieties of snappers have been making it to the table for our clients. These tasty fish are not big but will soon be your favorite! Next will be the gag grouper‘s. They are still in season although tough to get off the bottom they have been a nice mix for fillets. Then we get to the Goliaths. These fish are protected but sure are fun to fight. They will test every step of your ability and leave you coming back for more! Fish range from 10 pounds to well over 300. We enjoy the 40-100 pounds. These fish are manageable make great photos and usually don’t break you off in the wreck too bad. Our backcountry fishery still remains very solid. Although we have not been back there very much in the last two months. When the Gulf is as flat as it’s been you really need to take advantage of that. Although with this inshore fishery has spawned our Pilcherd migration. We have been flooded with baitfish everywhere. We are not complaining which makes our day very easy! It has been one & done with a castnet every morning the last month. These baits are only going to get bigger and only spread out all the way to Thanksgiving! They are all over the beaches and any kind of structure you can find is usually holding these. With September being the slowest months of the year we are wide open. We did put our sister boat into the shop for a full Restore and will be getting her back around Halloween. Our schedules are wide open. Fishing is great, please reach out to anyone of our captains for a chance to take the best out of this slow month! Thank you. The Bedell Captains. Pre-fall days are here. Everything seems very early and we are not complaining!
Seems to be a mid flux of Cobia have been in our area in the last week or so. We have seen pairs and packs also some single large rogue fish. The fish are a little early. They usually show up around Halloween and Thanksgiving time when the water cools a little bit. Also we’ve been getting one just about every trip lost a couple of studs by the boat today. On the same wrecks we will find some large snook. Lots of packs of hungry barracudas on the surface just waiting for a frisky live bait or an artificial. A slew of every sized goliath grouper on the bottom waiting for a chunk or follow your snapper to the surface. All of these have been filling the gaps while we are looking for the Permit. The Permit have thinned a little bit. They have also moved off our normal Wrecks and are swimming around a little bit more. It takes a little bit of time to locate these fish but once we do they’re usually balled up and waiting for that live crabs to land right in front of their face. Our schedules have gotten a little tighter these last couple months. We have taken one of our boats and are doing a complete overhaul. All the way down to the stringers! This boat will be entering back into the fleet around Halloween. So with that notion we are down to one boat and our schedules are still very busy for this time of the year. We have one day available next week and that has been the norm for these last summer months. Please reach out to anyone of our Captains by phone, social media or even email. We would love to get you out in the water and experience some great fishing in our area! Thank you. The Bedell Captains! As we are a month into summer the Tarpon are starting to thin out. We are still seeing some trains and daisy chains and even some rogue free swimmers. Although these fish are a little smaller. Tarpon in the 50 to 90 pound class are still in our region and actually are the perfect size ones for the beginners. They still do all the tarpon things that we love but give up very quickly. Which is nice for release and a quick photo to swim away healthy!
Our permit game still remains absolutely as solid as can be! We have these fish on lock. You just better bring your A game! These fish are strong, massive, and will take you to the house if you’re not prepared! We’ve had a lot of first timers and beginner anglers on these fish. It’s usually trial by fire but by the third or fourth one things start to click! To stay with the offshore fishery the inshore wrecks have been as good as it gets as well. We had a client book 3 full days last week. To capitalize on everything you could. He wanted Goliaths and we proceeded to catch him 19 in two days from 10 pounds to 75 pounds. These are usually another bucket list fish and very available! We’ve also found some smaller Cobia. Lots of barracudas. Even had a visit from a 10 foot Tigershark this week! Exciting stuff and it changes by the day! We are thinning out on our calendars but there is still room available. This time of the year we get to cherry pick and line up the stars for you for the best available fishing day of your life! Book accordingly and please reach out to anyone of our captains. Thank you the Captain Bedell‘s April is here and someone really needs to turn the fan off! We have been dealing with some crazy wind for this time of the year. We have only been able to sneak offshore two days in the last 3 weeks. As you can see it’s paid off!
The offshore fishery has been supplying some of the best permit fishing I’ve seen this early in the season in a long time. Large football field size schools swimming all around these wrecks from 25 pounders all the way up to 40s. These wrecks have also been holding a healthy amount of Cobia, Barracuda‘s, Bonitas, sharks and lots of snappers for the table! The inshore and backcountry have been very solid and really the only game right now with all of this weather. The redfish have still been in the area and eating well. Lots of Trout, Jacks, smaller Snook, the larger ones have been hiding.Ha! Also good numbers of micro tarpon around in the 5-30 range. Even big ol late season triple tail in the mix! Our trips in April is disappearing by the hour. I believe we have 2 days available left this month. That’s for both boats. Please still reach out, we have cancellations and clients that miss their flights all the time. Plan accordingly and we are looking forward to getting you on the water! Tight lines! The Bedell Captains. The fishing the first week of March has been nothing less than remarkable. To say Spring has sprung is an understatement! What has been happening around here feels more like the Bahamas and Central America than possibly Naples, Florida!
The offshore fishing seems that everything is months early than it should be. We have literally been bouncing off thousand fish schools of permit this last week. Three different sized football field schools of tailing, wagging and daisy chaining permit all from 15 to 40 pounds! Toss your crab in the middle and hold on! Also in the schools of Permit are wolf packs of Cobia ranging from 20 to 50 pounds. These fish will literally eat anything you throw out on from a jig, plug or well-placed live bait always does the trick! We really can’t leave this one out either. After releasing a permit on Saturday Capt Weston looked over and found a beautiful sailfish. Captain Perry quickly grabbed a bait to site fish this beautiful pelagic! Absolute unicorn in these parts and very very rare. The last time the onamissionfishingcharters team caught a sailfish in the gulf it was 1996. What’s even crazier than the Sailfish is we were graced with a beautiful white shark the day before. This 8 foot juvenile great white was not scared of us at all. It was almost sizing us up, what an amazing creature still very rare in these parts! The back country fishing is absolutely coming alive as well. The giant snook are moving in off the wrecks and setting up in their usual haunts! The spawn should be around May and all the big girls eat! Redfish are still about on every shoreline along with jacks and even some trout and mangrove snapper for the table if you like! The tarpon should be here any day now. There have been some juveniles in the back country from 5 to 30 pounds. The big ones should be here any day! We have already seen a few rogue fish! Now if all this doesn’t get your arms tired we still have more sharks to pull on than anybody probably wants to. From black tips and spinners to sand bars and bulls. Even the occasional tiger and hammerhead will still show up! We are getting ready to enter one of the busiest seasons of the year. March is already gearing up to be very busy while we have almost one boat already booked. Still plenty of room left on the second boat to get your family on the water. April and May are following suit! We have also now added online booking to our website. Naplesoffshorefishingcharters.com you can go on there and book your charter at any time. Even when we are offshore out of range from any cell phone towers. So please book accordingly and visit the site, it’s very easy and walks you right through it! We hope to get you and your family out on the water, thank you from all the captains at On A Mission! The winter to spring transition has sprung upon us. Lots of mixed back action for both boats! The offshore waters and back country have been both very solid this last week. The water is getting warmer and some of our migratory species are showing up! For offshore. Packs of Cobia. Football field size schools of Bonita. A variety of very good sized sharks. Lots of snapper and sheephead for the dinner table!
For the back country we are making the transition from shrimp to pilchards and artificials! With the waters warming up snook and redfish will be eating pilchards! Along with some massive jacks patrolling the back country and the tarpon should show up any day. OK as in booking your families Charter. We have added some new things to our website which makes booking extremely easy while we were on the water for long days and usually out of range. Also you can see our full calendar and make sure the days you’re looking for are available. We are extremely busy. Florida is flooded like I’ve never seen it in my life! We have three dates available left this February. I believe we have 10 days available left in March for one boat lots of doubles in there as well. Things are trickling in for April too! Please book accordingly and get your families Charter in the book. March and April are extremely busy with spring break and Easter these dates will not last long! We hope to see you on the water soon. Tight lines! Thank you the Bedell Captains! Well 2022 is finally here, it was a toothy Christmas holiday for the on a mission team. With summer like patterns at the end of December made for some awesome weather and incredible fishing!
We were hit with one of the busiest holiday seasons we’ve had. First season with two boats and we were able to accommodate large family parties and we didn’t stop for about three weeks. We are still going strong with only two availabilities left this week. The fishing has been absolutely incredible. Lots of bait everywhere water temps in the mid 70s light winds makes our job very easy. The back country and nearshore has remained as solid as it can be. Redfish and snook seem to be everywhere like it’s still fall. We also have been finding some fish for the table with sheephead, mangrove snapper, trout, tripletail and even a few gag grouper to close out the season. So as we start this new year we are still extremely busy. If you have any indication of when you would like to fish or when your party would like to be on the water please reach out to anyone of our captains. Thank you. Happy new year! The Bedell captain’s. Well Christmas is right around the corner and we would be thinking it’s still September around here with this beautiful weather that we’ve been having. Light winds and water temperatures in the mid 70s have made offshore fishing incredible this week. With everything from Permit, Cobia, Gag Grouper and if that’s not enough for you lots of sharks in Bonitas to pull on too. We are sure the backcountry fishing is been good as well but when the Seas are this calm we take full advantage of these opportunities as you can see our photos.
Now as to Christmas break and availability. We have one boat completely almost full until the first of the year. We do have some availability from our second boat which would be filling up very fast, we booked nine charters yesterday. If this is a little hint about what’s getting ready to go on around here please plan accordingly and let us know if you would like to get anything in the books for the holidays. Also we do offer last minute gift certificates and fishing packages for Christmas. Just get with any of our captains and we can get this written up for you and deliver it to your family for Christmas! Everyone have a safe happy holiday. We will see you on the water, tight lines.
