Naples Fishing Report by On a Mission Fishing Charters

With the beginning of the year brings cold fronts, wind, rain, but we always have something and somewhere to go. With all these elements, the fishing slows way down. The fish are lethargic and or not very aggressive. They want to eat slow and shrimp is on the menu. The sheephead have been the staple for these cooler months. They love shrimp, they eat very slow and they are great table fair.

These fish are basically everywhere. Any kind of rock pile. Dock or even deep cuts in the back country. Even seen them up on the flats with the redfish and snook!

The Offshore fishing is very difficult to reach for us this time of the year. That’s why we have been concentrating on the wrecks and reefs within the 5 mile range of Naples. We are in the process of building our new offshore boat. Which will accommodate clients from 6 to 8 passengers that should be in the water by early summer. Also will be able to navigate the waters that we have around here this time of year a lot better.

Our calendars are very busy. There is a lot of people in town, we are getting booked up for Permit and Tarpon and Season already. If you would like to book anything for 2021 please reach out to anyone of our captains.

Thank you,
Captains Bedell

The winter fishing is in full effect. Artificial’s & live shrimp have been working so good, the fish are starving and not going to turn down a meal.

Redfish, black drum, sheephead, trout have been the norm this week. There has still been some triple tail around the numbers are dwindling a little bit but there still are some big fish around. We are looking forward to warming up & the arrival of an early spring. We still have some availability left in late January and February, please feel free to contact us about your groups fishing trip.

Naples Offshore and Backcountry Fishing Report

The On a Mission crew had a nice little break in the weather. Few days after a blistering cold front we were able to hit some of the artificial wrecks just outside Naples. These wreck are 2-5 miles from land. A very short ride. Lots of mixed bad spices. Like the Goliath Grouper, sheepshead, Spanish Mackerel, mangrove snapper and Gag Grouper. Could even have a Cobia swim through. We are ALWAYS looking for the Tripletail too!!!

When these cold fronts roll thru. We have Plan B in the backcountry. The back also supplies a nice mixed bag this time of the year. It’s usually a lot calmer in the back, and a lot of our clients prefer this. Lots of mixed bag species in the back, lots of things to do, lots of good table fare as well.

Our calendars are pretty packed for this week. We do have some room into next week and into 2021. Wishing everyone a happy and safe new year and looking forward to getting you all on the water in this new year!

Thank you, Captain Wes

The fishing in Naples, Florida still remain solid. We’ve had a couple consecutive back to back cold fronts and the water temperatures have been cooler which leaves more options and great fishing.

Offshore fishing for Naples: when the weather permits. We’ve been catching Bonita, Tripletail, Kingfish and Spanish mackerel, there’s been some Cobia around and mangrove snapper on the wrecks.

Back country fishing for Naples: with the cooler waters we have been using shrimp and pilchards for bait hitting structures like docks, rock piles and other forms of structures to catch a variety of species. From sheephead and black drum. Also Trout, Redfish, snapper and Snook.

Our calendars for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve break are filling up very rapidly. Please reach out to anyone of our captains so we can get you and your family on the water this holiday season!

Well here we are again with yet with another hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.

We really don’t mind, it just shuts the fishing along the beach and inshore  down a little bit. The fishing in the back remains solid. Big snook lots of reds, & jacks around every corner, always something to pull on. Even some juvenile Tarpon.

With the departure of tropical disturbance ETA. Fishing along the beach should go right back to normal. Tarpon sharks Bonita kingfish and triple tail will all be up for grabs. Our books are filling up completely for Thanksgiving we still have some half days available for that week so please if you and your family would like to get on the water with us please book accordingly!

So we will see you on the water, happy holidays & tight lines!

Finally our first dose of winter weather this week. With blustery north east winds 25 to 30 kn all week, we are still getting it done. With a category three hurricane to the south and cold fronts to the north the weather has been dicey this week. We still have some trips and are still on the fish.

With the water cooling this week will   have all the fish very active and starting to fattened up for the upcoming winter months. The offshore species include. Tarpon, Kingfish, Bonita, tripletail Spanish Mack’s & a variety of sharks if you feel like pulling on one of those.

The inshore and back country species have been cooperating as well, Snook Tarpon, Redfish are everywhere & Jack’s & snappers fill in the gaps’s.

Please call any one of our captains to book a trip of a lifetime, this is a great time of year to target multiple species!

Fall fishing is right on schedule. Inshore fishing in the back country fishing is pretty much as good as it gets here in the Naples area. On this day we double slammed out by 830am with all respectable fish. Some were even site finished which makes the game very interesting. The water is crystal clear Bait is everywhere and amazingly easy to get. The unreal fishing is not far away.

Our schedules are very open and flexible this time of the year. It doesn’t take long to book a trip or get to this amazing fishing!

Tight lines, please give us a call, the Capt Bedell’s!

The inshore and backcountry fishing in Naples and Marco have been nothing shy of spectacular this time of year! It just seems like every corner you go around you just are seeing quality fish like this 12 pound Snook caught this morning! We love this time of year, no one is on the water Bait is one and done and this is the reward.

September is one of our slowest months. Ironically fishing is becoming incredible fall is here and we are ready to take you and your family fishing!

Naples Inshore and Offshore Fishing Report

The Permit game in Naples Florida has been the complete go to! It’s real easy to go buy a few dozen crabs and go sight cast these beautiful fish. Also  been some very large barracudas on these wrecks that fill in the gap’s when the permit do not show right away.

The inshore game has become almost strictly artificial‘s. The bait in our region in Southwest Florida has vanished. We have been able to gold hook threads offshore when we can find them but those baits are just a little too big for the back country fish. The Tarpon on the Beach haven’t seem to mind them or the snook inn the passes. Also we have have been throwing a variety of soft plastics and top water plugs in the back depending on conditions.

It seems like everyone’s vacation plans are all over the board our calendars are ironically busy for the off-season fishing is very good right now and we usually take advantage of this on our own but luckily we are having some nice clients come down and book this beautiful weather!

Please call email or contact any of our captains at on a mission charters in beautiful Naples Florida, looking forward to hearing from you soon. tight lines Captain Wes!

Naples, Florida Offshore Permit Fishing Charters

On a mission is still on the Permit. To be honest, it’s been the easiest bait fishing we have at the moment. It’s just to easy to go buy a few dozen crabs and go put them to work. Sight casting is the norm, and our favorite. It seems our fish are a little deeper than usual. So we have been doing better just soaking them and waiting for the “drive by”

Are other bait-fishing has seemed impossible lately. The pilchards have seemed to left a month early. We have been getting very lucky and getting enough to use. Fishing is easy when you have them, but near impossible when you don’t. So please be patient. We have been going out 2 to 3 hours before our charter to try to locate it and still barely getting enough to use for our charter. We have been use of sabkis also to get threads and using them as well. The beach is loaded with 1 inch pilchards and we are waiting for those to grow.

Still been a few tarpon around as well, and we love that they eat crabs this time of the year.

It seems the world is opening back up, we are getting study calls and clients are traveling to Fish! If you are in the Naples, Florida area and you would like to book a charter, please feel to reach out to anyone of our captains.

Thank you,
The Captain Bedell’s!
