We have made it to August and the last month of summer. Things are already starting to change gears in Naples, Florida.
The Permit game still remains solid when weather conditions being where they need to be. Lots of afternoon showers and wind direction all over the place has made it difficult to get to the grounds. Once you arrive. We have been greeted with some dirty water. Still some fish in the area and site fishing has pretty much disappeared. Soaking a well placed crab in the right area will be rewarded! Bring that extra bag of patience. With this unstable wind and weather. We have retreated into the near shore Wrecks. Seems like a lot of the larger snook have moved out of the back country and to these near shore structures. They are very large and most of them not much smaller than 20 pounds. These inshore structures also hold a variety of barracudas, goliath groupers, mangrove snappers, Spanish mackerel, and a mixed bag of sharks to keep all anglers busy. With the last month of summer approaching we are already starting to see some fall patterns. Our pilchards hatch is all small and starting from scratch. These are growing every day and yet small are very useable and have been getting the job done! Our calendars are still quite busy for this time of the year. We did put one boat into the shop for repairs. We will be getting her back around Halloween. With us being down to one boat has been tricky to try to get some trips in but we are still getting it done. With this being said. I would still reach out to anyone of our captains when you have those fishing dates available. Thank you. The Bedell Captains.

July always means big permit in Naples for the On a Mission team! Throughout my whole career we always looked forward to July.
This month has always been usually bittersweet for us. We’ve always looked forward to the new moon in July because it would always yield the largest permit of the year for us. Also this is the month where they usually start thinning out. This year seems a little different. As I’m talking to my captains and looking over our records. We’ve never had a year with so many quality fish over 40 inches. With these larger fish have come a new way to approach them also new tactics. These fish are so big. They are so strong. Most clients don’t realize the power and strength these fish have till they are completely blindsided and take them to the wreck like a freight train. We have been breaking hooks. That’s right. I said we are breaking steel hooks!! We usually have a couple rounds of trial by fire before clients start dialing these fish directions in the right way. It’s a lot of give-and-take with these behemoth permit. Everything has to go right for you to get that picture and memory of a lifetime. So get plenty of rest and please listen to our directions and you can knock this fish off your bucket list as well! Our calendars are thinning out a little bit. We really don’t mind. We get to reboot the system and go play with these dinosaurs a little bit ourselves. We’re not mad about that! It’s been a nice break for our team. If this is something that you would like to do please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of our captains to book a trip of a lifetime! Thank you the Bedell Captain’s. The OAM team is wrapped up the month of June with a beautiful cherry on top!
We have completely switched gears and put the Naples tarpon fishing on the back burner. The Permit Fishing is taking full presidents and with multiple 40 inch fish coming over the rail weekly you can see why! I was just speaking with my captains the other day about this. We can’t remember in any time of our fishing careers, even mine for that matter. When we have delivered so many 40 inch plus fish to clients. This year and season have just been incredible. Yes we’ve caught some amazing fish. In that fact we’ve also lost so many more. These fish are so big. So strong! We can’t even say everyone is shocked when they realize what is on the end of the line. It’s very hard to coach or try to prep someone for this. It’s usually trial by fire and in the heat of the moment we hope the fish makes a mistake. So I always tell my clients get plenty of rest and please listen to our instructions. I know we sound very repetitive and probably like a broken record over and over again. Trust us. We want that picture and memory as bad as you do! We are happy to have another amazing June in the books. July is already wrapping up to be busy. Half the month is already booked and we are filling up trips daily. This is an amazing time of year to cherry pick days and make a memory for a lifetime. Keep an eye on our post, book your Naples fishing charter accordingly and we hope to get you and your family on the water! Thank you. The Bedell Captain’s. As we are a month into summer the Tarpon are starting to thin out. We are still seeing some trains and daisy chains and even some rogue free swimmers. Although these fish are a little smaller. Tarpon in the 50 to 90 pound class are still in our region and actually are the perfect size ones for the beginners. They still do all the tarpon things that we love but give up very quickly. Which is nice for release and a quick photo to swim away healthy!
Our permit game still remains absolutely as solid as can be! We have these fish on lock. You just better bring your A game! These fish are strong, massive, and will take you to the house if you’re not prepared! We’ve had a lot of first timers and beginner anglers on these fish. It’s usually trial by fire but by the third or fourth one things start to click! To stay with the offshore fishery the inshore wrecks have been as good as it gets as well. We had a client book 3 full days last week. To capitalize on everything you could. He wanted Goliaths and we proceeded to catch him 19 in two days from 10 pounds to 75 pounds. These are usually another bucket list fish and very available! We’ve also found some smaller Cobia. Lots of barracudas. Even had a visit from a 10 foot Tigershark this week! Exciting stuff and it changes by the day! We are thinning out on our calendars but there is still room available. This time of the year we get to cherry pick and line up the stars for you for the best available fishing day of your life! Book accordingly and please reach out to anyone of our captains. Thank you the Captain Bedell‘s The mid June fishing report for Naples Florida. Ever since tropical storm one went through two weeks ago we have been dealing with some serious weather. Lots of rain. Scattered showers and straight west winds made our fishery very interesting!
Our boats have not stopped and we have been fishing with this weather every day. We have been making the best of it. Also there are plenty of fish around ready to chew. The Tarpon fishery off the beach got interesting with 2 to 4 foot swells every day made it near impossible. We dialed our resources into the back and found some nice fish in the 4 foot water depth. These fish were eating a variety of cut bait. Which is very nice, you can get away with usually larger leader and larger hooks. Also nice mix bag of sharks in the same area. Mostly blacktips, spinners and bulls are really fun to pull on in between the tarpon. Also, the snook fishing in the back has really tuned up. We have been catching between 50 and 60 snook pretty much on every half day Charter. Most fish in the slot size with a couple bigger ones breaking off close to the boat. They have been absolute snook rodeos great action for beginning anglers and fun for the whole family! Let’s fast forward a little bit and to where the wind finally stops. As of the last couple days we have slipped into our summer patterns. Northeast to East wind has made it flat along the beach and opened up the doors for some site fishing for Tarpon in crystal clear water. This is the game we love! On that same note the offshore permit are still here and still chewing! Monster behemoth 40 inchers have been coming over the gunnels of the OAM teams boats for a quick photo and then released quickly you fight again. As having both of our boats in the mix it still feels like March. Our phones are still exploding with late caller’s and last-minute shoppers. These all have been coming after our daily post of Tarpon and permit. These posts get shared talked among friends and family and Charters are usually booked the next day. So please plan accordingly. If you or your family would love to get in on any of this incredible fishery we have right now please let anyone of our captains know. Thank you the Bedell Captains! Well it’s June and this is the game everyday! Tarpon for breakfast. Permit for lunch! Also, the 1st day of hurricane season and we already have one coming up the pipe. Everyone stay safe!
Summer and June fishing is one of the months that we wait all year for. This is the month we talk about all year long. When clients ask everyday and all year long. When is the best month to fish? That’s right now!! These fish have shown up a few months ago and should be around most of the summer. The Tarpon are everywhere. Lots of fish swimming northbound and southbound. Lots of trains. Lots of daisy chains. Even some very larger rogue fish swimming up the beach in crystal clear water. Makes it very easy to pitch a crab in their path! Better hold on! When that shuts down by mid morning or boat traffic we slide out to the inshore and offshore wrecks. The permit have been stacked on these as well. Fish have been eating well on both tides. When we pull up on these wrecks we have crabs loaded in hand. Usually these fish are up high and floating and a dead giveaway from the tower. A well place crab will earn you great results and most of the time doubles! Both these species are absolute trophy’s and most people‘s bucket list! We have been serving them up on the daily and if you’re ready to knock these fish off your list please give us a call this month! We still have two boats running almost every day we will be pulling one of those out of the mix mid month for some repairs and to get her ready for next season and the fall fishery! With that being said, we still have the larger boat working and this is time when our serious clients call. So lots of full days booked you’re gonna want all the time you need to chase these beautiful fish! Hope to see you on the water. Tight lines. The Captain Bedell‘s! Spring is here in Naples, Florida and that means glamour species. Our area has been littered with Tarpon & Permit these last few weeks. Best part is that it’s just the beginning!
Our trips start a little earlier this time of year. Instead of us catching pilchards at 5am for 3 hours is pretty much over. Now we take our clients with us to sight cast to beautiful schools of Tarpon at sunrise. Huge pods of fish are migrating threw and give us great shots at these fish. That game is usually over by about 10am and then it’s off to the Permit grounds. Just a short jog offshore and we are graced with huge schools of Permit. All ranges from 20-50 pounds. We caught one last week that was 6 pounds shy of a Florida State record. With that being said. These fish are mean strong and will test every bit of your ability! Please get your rest and eat your Wheaties! This is a very special time of year and you can really pick some amazing fish off your bucket list. Please give us a call and we will get you a trip of a lifetime! Thank you the Bedell Captains! Happy Easter to all of the On a Missions clients! Spring is in full swing. Everything is right where it needs to be.
The offshore fishing is really heating up. Permit and Cobia are all over the wrecks. Sight fishing for these amazing fish is quite a sight to see. Also what we love to do. These wrecks are also littered with barracuda and a plethora of different sharks and jewfish to pull on! The inshore and beach fishing has exploded this week. Thousands of Tarpon have entered our region. Huge schools of fish all over the place. Mixed in with these Tarpon are large schools of giant jacks and a lot of black tips and spinner sharks all in crystal clear water for site fishing opportunities! Also there have been footballs field of Bonita ravishing baits all along the beach. Our calendars are still very full until around the first week of May. We do have some cancellations, people missed flights, or just merely don’t show up. Please feel free to reach out to anyone of our captains to try to capitalize on one of the spots for your family. Also try booking early we have lots of spots in May and June and this spring fishing is only going to get better! Have a safe and happy Easter tight lines thank you the Bedell Captains. April is here and someone really needs to turn the fan off! We have been dealing with some crazy wind for this time of the year. We have only been able to sneak offshore two days in the last 3 weeks. As you can see it’s paid off!
The offshore fishery has been supplying some of the best permit fishing I’ve seen this early in the season in a long time. Large football field size schools swimming all around these wrecks from 25 pounders all the way up to 40s. These wrecks have also been holding a healthy amount of Cobia, Barracuda‘s, Bonitas, sharks and lots of snappers for the table! The inshore and backcountry have been very solid and really the only game right now with all of this weather. The redfish have still been in the area and eating well. Lots of Trout, Jacks, smaller Snook, the larger ones have been hiding.Ha! Also good numbers of micro tarpon around in the 5-30 range. Even big ol late season triple tail in the mix! Our trips in April is disappearing by the hour. I believe we have 2 days available left this month. That’s for both boats. Please still reach out, we have cancellations and clients that miss their flights all the time. Plan accordingly and we are looking forward to getting you on the water! Tight lines! The Bedell Captains. Both of our fisheries are about as good as they get right now. The offshore and backcountry waters have all been thriving!
Well it is still March and we are still picking our days to head offshore. Usually with March means wind. Lots of wind. If you watch your apps, and pick your day you can capitalize on some amazing fishing! The permit are here! Football field schools of fish are just about on every wreck. Lots of fish up high. Tailing, mooning, and just waiting for a well-placed sight fished crab to pick off these fish from 25 to 40 pounds. Also the Cobia have been there to greet us almost every time. Wolf packs of fish ranging from 20 to 50 pounds are up high as well and ready to usually eat any bait fish, artificial, or fly! Yes and the giant schools of barracudas are never far away! These fish have been ravishing the artificial over the live bait! Insane eats right at your feet almost figure 8 musky style fishing! Packs of fish are surrounding the boat waiting for you to toss the artificial and rip it through them! Amazing site fishing opportunities with some National Geographic stuff thrown in! The back country fishery has been up to par and some great things happening back there as well. Seems like any Shoreline, Cove, or point you hit with a Livewell of frisky pilchards and you are almost in immediate action. Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, Trout and of course Jack’s have all been everywhere. Just toss a few freebies out the back and wait for the action to come alive. Almost instantly you see these fish putting huge holes in the water and waiting for you to place your bait right in the middle and hold on! We love it!! Now with the fishing being the way it is and the time of year being where it is our calendars are exploding. Even with two boats we are running every day so please try to prevent the late calls. We just don’t have room for you unless there is a emergency cancellation. Please book accordingly. I would book a charter before you book your flight information because they are going fast. We hate to leave anyone out and we want to make sure everybody has a chance to get on the water with us. Looking forward to seeing you on the water. Everyone have a happy and safe spring break and Easter. Tight lines! Thank you, the Bedell Captains! |
